Review: Cafe Cognito, St Swithin Street, Aberdeen

Going for takeaway sandwiches on a day off work might seem like the height of laziness.

But it was the quickest and easiest option when my mum, sister and I got together for coffee and fancied a bit of sustenance.

Things were busy at this popular West End cafe when I popped in – with both takeaway and sit-in custom – but they had the system at the till down to a fine art and I was swiftly served.

The tuna melt panini and roast vegetable focaccia I’d picked up were taken to be toasted before I took them home, along with a coronation chicken sandwich.

The warmed tuna panini was delicious, with the generous filling and melted cheese oozing from the crunchy exterior.

My sister was also impressed with the freshness of the toasted vegetable focaccia, which had juicy chunks of roasted veg and was nicely seasoned, while mum’s sandwich, with tender pieces of chicken in a delicately spiced sauce, with fresh salad and chutney, also got full marks.

It was, all in all, a tasty and fuss-free lunch.
