The Majestic Mountain Moose has returned with his new show Easy Tiger.
Canadian comedian Craig Campbell is coming to the Lemon Tree as part of his third solo tour.
Craig’s career in comedy started as a teen in British Columbia. He said: “I was living in a cabin with three paddlers: two canoeists and one kayaker and I was sort of the card of the place.
“I was 17/18 years old and I would come in and tell my little stories.”
With no TV in their cabin, in the middle of nowhere, he entertained his friends with his day’s events.
A kayaker and dietician-nutritionalist named Peter can be thanked for Craig’s comedic beginnings.
Peter – who was involved in show business – was up for a weekend paddling session and enjoyed Craig’s tales so encouraged him to pursue stand-up.
Craig’s personal experiences still influence his performances.
One of his unique qualities is he takes the time to listen to audience members who shout out during the show.
He said: “Before I leap too quickly to cause a problem with somebody who is deemed to be interrupting I try to assess whether or not they’re being either creative or contributing to be helpful.”
Craig thinks it can be worthwhile listening to the audience.
“I have no doubt and lack of consideration to think that anybody who just happens to be sharp witted can not be easily as funny as the comic on the stage.”
During his shows he likes to share his experiences of the different cultures or experiences he encounters on tour.
He said: “That’s kind of what I enjoy doing the most. What we have in common, no matter how separate we are by nationality or by upbringing.
“I try to find that commonality, to then try and bring humour to it.”
He reckons he has played around 20-25 shows in Aberdeen and city audiences have always treated him well.
Craig, who is from Calgary, thinks the city has a lot in common with Alberta due to the oil industry.
His biggest gig in the city was played at HMT, which remains one of his most popular shows.
“In my limited comedic success, my limited status in our little, tiny business here, I am dispropor-tionately popular in Aberdeen against every other place on Earth.”
Catch Craig Campbell at the Lemon Tree, tonight at 8pm.
