Inverurie teenage DJ Evan Duthie has been tipped for future stardom by BBC Radio One’s Annie Mac.
The 15-year-old will take another step on his rapidly ascending career when he performs at the Enjoy Music Festival at Hazlehead Park on Saturday, June 4.
Evan will play the main stage, headlined by chart stars Example and Tinie Tempah, just days after sitting his exams at Kemnay Academy.
The fourth year pupil said: “Playing the Enjoy Festival main stage is so exciting and I am really looking forward to it.
“I have some unreleased tracks from some big artists that I will maybe play.
“My last exam is on Friday, May 29, so I then have a week to get myself ready and my set fully prepped for the festival.
“It will be a busy time.”
The Enjoy Music Festival will not be the first time the teen has played to huge crowds.
Last summer he performed a DJ set in front of thousands at the Norway Cup, the world’s biggest youth football tournament, in Oslo. He played the main stage and impressed so much he was asked to perform for the next four days.
Later that year Evan played an hour set at Glasgow’s 02 Academy as part of Annie Mac Presents 2015 British tour.
He said: “Everything has happened so fast for me.
“It all began by tweeting Annie Mac one night and she has been incredible to me ever since.
“I played a set in Glasgow on a night with Annie and after the set we talked about how to get myself out there.
“She has been so helpful and given such great advice.”
Evan began mixing at 13 and towards the end of 2014 realised he wanted to make a career out of his passion for music. However at just 15 he is too young to play many clubs.
Evan, who turns 16 in November, said: “It can be difficult as I can’t play many clubs due to my age. That is why it is so great that events like the Enjoy Music Festival have given me this great opportunity.”
The festival will boast more than 40 acts spread across five stages.
Evan is hoping to catch Chicago based techno legend Green Velvet who headlines the Digital Love and MajestIk
dance tent. Green Velvet is incredible he is an absolute legend,” he said.
“It is fantastic that the Enjoy Music festival can get so many big names to play Aberdeen.
“Hopefully I can catch his set and it would be great to get some tips off Green Velvet.”
Evan’s star potential was underlined when the teen was selected from thousands of applicants to play at the World’s largest Electronic music production and DJ exhibition (BPM) at the NEC in Birmingham last August. It is not just on the decks he is impressing as Evan is also producing tracks, with a debut release in the pipeline.
He said: “My set often contains my own music and I will be releasing a few of my own tracks towards the end of the summer. “A record label is quite interested in releasing tracks so I will just have to see how it goes.”
The popular festival also includes performances from electronic duo Dusky and former Sea Horses frontman, Chris Helme.
Festival MD Russell Aitchison said: “It is year two for us and we are thrilled to be bringing top artists to the heart of Aberdeen again.
“This year we have also added more great local talent, such as Evan Duthie, as well as comedy and some of the best food and drink in the region.”
