Outdoors fans Greg Gibb and Adele Reid were keen to create a hint of the countryside in their home in Aberdeen.
The couple’s hearts were set on a place with a laid-back feel that satisfied their need to be close to the city centre.
This two-bedroom lower flat gave them just what they were after, and they set about decorating it in the style of an airy, country home.
Greg said: “It was perfect for all year round. The sun house and garden are great in summer, and in winter, the two huge fireplaces make it a really cosy house.”
The couple, who both work for Repsol Sinopec Resources UK, fell in love with the flat’s unique characteristics.
Quality co-ordinator Greg, 30, said: “We loved the character of the property. The high ceilings and big windows really made it feel like a country home.”
The couple have completely redecorated the whole property, with many of the choices reflecting 34-year-old HR business partner Adele’s country living-inspired tastes.
Greg said: “We cleaned everything up, put down a modern floor in the bathroom and Adele did a lot of up-cycling of second hand furniture to complement the traditional building.”
The flat, which they bought four years ago, was the first home the couple purchased together.
Greg said: “We’d previously been renting in the city centre for five years but realised we wanted more space for our money when buying a home.
“It had so much more space than what we would have got in the city centre, and the fact there was ample free parking right outside the property was a real bonus.”
Their spacious bedroom is the couple’s favourite room, with the sun room a close second.
He said: “The bedroom is the standout room for me. There’s a huge amount of space and the traditional fireplace is over 100 years old.
“The sun house is great for entertaining all year round and the garden is a sun trap.”
He added: “The second bedroom is really unique and has a sink in it, and door leading out to the back garden too – it’s a cool space. I also love the original fireplaces.”
As well as a private garden, the property has a long shared lawn, a private outhouse and access to a shared wash house.
Now keen to set up home in the country for real, the couple plan on moving to Banchory.
