Cat Johnston’s home has gone on “quite a journey” since she bought it eight years ago.
And when the Cordyce School teacher first stepped over the threshold at 32 Lilybank Place, she never imagined just a few years later it would become a busy family home.
Cat, 36, now shares her home with husband Calum, 32, and their daughters Lois, 3, and 10-month-old Grace.
The busy mum said: “It’s gone through quite a journey.
“Calum has fundamentally transformed the place into what it is now.”
The “cold and outdated” property has become a warm and inviting home.
And it’s not just the inside of the property that has been given Calum’s magic touch.
The keen gardener, who is a business development manager for social enterprise Scarf, completely revamped the overgrown back garden.
Cat said: “By getting rid of the massive hedges and laying a new lawn he immediately updated the space.
“He added in raised flower beds at the back, planted ivy, built a heather bed and laid all of the patio himself. Although it’s a shared garden we definitely get more use out of the space. It’s one of our favourite parts of our home.”
Putting their stamp on the flat, the couple completely redecorated every room.
Cat said: “All of the floorboards have been re-sanded and walls painted.
“We put in a new bathroom, renovated the kitchen, and put in a new central heating system, too.”
Currently on maternity leave, Cat enjoys relaxing in the lounge, which she says is her favourite room.
She said: “I loved putting the open fire on, but we haven’t used it since the girls were born. “It’s beautiful and complements the spacious room. I love the high ceilings and distinctive character features such as the ceiling rose.”
There is no shortage of storage space and the apartment also has its own cellar as well as a shared former wash house. The mum-of-two said: “There’s heaps of local amenities and Berryden retail park is a 10-minute walk away.”
The couple are now planning a life in the countryside, and hope to move
to Dunecht or Kintore.
Cat added: “It’s been a very multi-purpose home.
“But the girls currently share a room so it would be great for them to have their own space.”
