It’s not often apartments with an exclusive garden come on the market, and it was this property’s outdoor space that sealed the deal for William Buchan and his partner Laura Beattie.
William and Laura, who have been together for nine years, say that the size of the spacious flat and its beautiful garden attracted them to the West End property, where they have now lived for three years.
“We moved in after staying in Ferryhill for three years. We like the West End and the Ferryhill area so we wanted to stay that side of town,” said William, a 40-year-old management consultant who works for SpeedCast.
A lover of gardening, Laura set to work sprucing up the outdoor area.
William said: “We removed a lot of overgrown hedging which took over the space and tidied up the garden so we could actually use it.
“There’s a great patio area and Laura tidied up all of the flower beds. You don’t tend to get this size of exclusive garden area to yourself with a flat, and when it’s a nice day we’ll usually organise a barbecue with friends. It’s great to have so much outdoor space.”
The two bedroom apartment features contemporary and traditional styling throughout. As well as plenty of storage space, the flat also has an exclusive basement.
He said: “The spacious rooms and the period features, such as, the high ceilings attracted us to the flat.
“It has lots of space and there’s a good potential for expansion with the basement downstairs.
“When we first moved in a lot of work had been done, however, we redecorated it and put our own stamp on it.”
Laura, a 32-year-old marketing lead at Proserv, styled it to her contemporary taste.
The couple’s favourite space is the living room.
William said: “I like the high ceilings, the original cornicing and the feature fireplace. It’s unlike anything you get now.”
Both from Aberdeen, the couple enjoy spending time eating out in the local area.
He said: “The cafe culture is really good, Laura and I always go for breakfast on a Sunday.”
Looking to stay local, the couple are hoping to move into a house in the same area.
He said: “We’re looking to move to a house instead, one which we’ll stay in for years.”
