Sheerin expecting tough tie in Aberdeenshire Cup

07/12/17 PITTODRIE - ABERDEEN Aberdeen U20 coach Paul Sheerin addresses the press

Paul Sheerin expects to come up against “seasoned” players as his Dons Reserves continue their quest to lift the Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup.

Aberdeen’s colts will travel to Spain Park tonight, despite being the home team, to take on Banks o’ Dee on the junior Superleague champions’ artificial surface.

Boss Sheerin knows the Shire Cup offers a great opportunity for his players to win a trophy, but labelled Dee “men” who will test his young charges.

Speaking after his side beat Falkirk 4-0 in the new Reserve League, he said: “We’ll go again and recover tomorrow and hopefully they’ll be ready to keep the standards that we’ve set in the second 45 minutes.

“The challenge for us as a younger group is playing against men and seasoned Highland League or junior players.

“We know it will be hard and we know we’ll have to apply ourselves properly.

“We’d love to win it and that’s the main aim, and for that group to be together and hopefully start winning things is what we’re looking to do.

“The Aberdeenshire Cup is an opportunity to do that and we’ve not been in it for a while so it’s a challenge that we’re looking forward to.

“We understand by watching them they are in a good vein of form at the minute so it’s going to be a tough game and we’re going to need to prepare properly for it.”

Both sides enter tonight’s tie on good runs, with Dee beating Highland League Inverurie Locos comfortably in the last round.

Aberdeen beat Buckie Thistle in their first Shire Cup game and have yet to concede a goal in the Reserve League in their two fixtures so far, both of which were wins.
