Aberdeen players past and present and media from the UK have taken to Twitter to praise Northern Ireland hero Niall McGinn.

Nearly 24 hours on from arguably the Dons star’s finest hour, the praise keeps on coming for the forward.

McGinn came off the bench for the Northern Irish to score in injury time and make it 2-0 against Ukraine, sealing his country’s first ever win at a European Championships.

The forward seized his chance with aplomb, tucking a tidy finish beyond goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.

For those of you who missed it, BBC Northern Ireland have it from every angle you can think of.

McGinn took to Twitter himself to express what he thought about the goal.

Former Don Josh Magennis was a key part of the build-up and was proud to share the special moment, with the goalscorer staying humble as ever.

Aberdeen FC’s Twitter feed supported the forward throughout the game with a series of Tweets and the club were clearly delighted to see their man get on the scoresheet.

Adam Rooney is a man who knows a bit about scoring himself and congratulated his Dons partner-in-crime for a finish he would no doubt have been pleased with.

Former Aberdeen keeper Jamie Langfield also got in on the account, with his quick hands ready to offer a round of applause to his old teammate straight away.

For ITV pundit and Northern Irishman Iain Dowie, it was all a bit much – as his commentary can attest.

In fairness to the ITV team, it wasn’t just Dowie getting a bit excited after the goal went in…

One fan even had their phone at the ready for the whole move. (A heads up: maybe turn the volume down…)

The forward’s agent Gerry Carlile also got in on the act and was delighted to see the effort of the County Tyrone man pay off on the biggest stage.

UEFA themselves recognised McGinn’s part in a memorable day for Northern Ireland with a series of pictures showing him wheeling away in delight.

Ever the jokers, Paddy Power have also suggested a possible career for McGinn should he get tired of football…

And earlier today, the Northern Ireland camp added their highlights of yesterday’s game. Why didn’t they just add the whole game?!
