Morelos’ red card against Aberdeen rescinded

Alfredo Morelos is red carded for an off the ball incident with Scott McKenna.

Alfredo Morelos’ red card against Aberdeen in the 1-1 draw at Pittodrie has been rescinded.

Referee Kevin Clancy dismissed Morelos after 11 minutes of the Premiership fixture, after the Colombian striker clashed with and appeared to kick out at Dons defender Scott McKenna.

Rangers appealed the decision and today the Scottish FA announced they had upheld the Gers’ complaint, downgrading the red for violent conduct to a yellow card.

He will now be free to face St Mirren at the weekend.

Aberdeen snatched a late point in the match on Sunday, with young substitute Bruce Anderson cancelling out James Tavernier’s penalty.

In the aftermath of the game, Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard launched an astonishing attack on Scotland’s officials.

He said:  “It seems like the world is against us today.

“But we’ll make sure we get better for that. We’ll make sure we play better and try and put results to bed, because it looks like some more decisions will go against us as the season goes on.

“We need to try and use it to our advantage. It’s not just today, it’s been happening for a while. It’s been happening for a good while. I believe it’s been happening for seasons. That’s my opinion, just my opinion.”
