Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has said the Hoops have ended their interest in Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna.
The 21-year-old centre-back was the subject of a £3.5 million bid from the Premiership champions.
However, it is understood the Dons told them he was not for sale.
Rodgers said: “He is a young player that I like, but it was made clear Scott won’t be for sale in this window so that would end that.”
McKenna is a hot property, having risen from the Reds youth ranks to skippering Scotland at the Azteca last season, and his manager Derek McInnes has said, when he moves on from Pittodrie, he thinks he’ll go straight to the English Premier League.
It is thought Aberdeen have already knocked back five bids from Hull and Swansea Down South for him.
