Aberdeen target Dylan McGeouch has completed his move to English League One Sunderland, who announced the deal on their website.
Despite already securing three midfielders in the transfer window, Dons boss Derek McInnes had remained keen on securing former Hibs midfielder and free agent McGeouch.
The Scotland international’s contract expired at the end of June and the Reds had offered him the opportunity to become the highest paid player at Pittodrie.
However, Aberdeen have lost out in the race to sign the 25-year-old, who met Sunderland boss Jack Ross for talks last week at Sunderland’s Academy of Light training ground.
Speaking about his arrival, Ross hailed his latest addition. He said: “Dylan has been really good for Hibernian and that’s culminated in him earning international recognition.
“There were a lot of teams interested in him because he’s at a good stage in his career and he’s absolutely desperate to come down to England and show people how good a player he is.
“The fans will like him because he’s got a lot of quality.”
