Aberdeen players Scott McKenna, Kenny McLean and Ryan Christie have been named in Alex McLeish’s first Scotland squad.

McKenna, 21, had been widely tipped for his maiden call-up for the squads to face Costa Rica at Hampden on March 23 and Hungary away four days later.

The defender, who signed an extended deal at Pittodrie util 2023 last week, has burst on to the scene this season, becoming the Dons’ first-choice centre-back.

He has been effective at the other end of the pitch, too, notably scoring a 40-yard wonder goal against Kilmarnock back in January.

Midfielder McLean, 26, who returned to Aberdeen on loan in January having signed a deal with Norwich City, has two Scotland caps – against the Czech Republic in March 2016 and Holland at Pittodrie in October, the game in which on-loan Celtic midfielder Christie made his national team debut.

Among the other notable inclusions are Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and Barnsley’s Oliver McBurnie.
