Aberdeen FC were today linked with a potential summer swoop for departing Kilmarnock midfielder Craig Slater.
The 22-year-old has rejected a new contract with Kilmarnock, who survived relegation by defeating Falkirk in the Premiership play-off final.
Slater also has a number of lower league clubs in England tracking him.
Dons boss Derek McInnes has reportedly expressed an interest in the former Scotland U21 international midfielder.
Aberdeen would need to pay compensation for Slater before they could complete any deal as he is only 22.
However the compensation would be less than the normal figure as Slater came through the youth ranks at St Mirren before switching to Kilmarnock in 2012.
Aberdeen have a policy of not commenting on transfer speculation until a deal has been done.
