The Dons were today close to agreeing a loan deal for Preston’s former St Johnstone striker Stevie May.
Aberdeen today refused to comment, but it’s believed manager Derek McInnes has opened talks aimed at securing the services of the 24-year-old until the end of the season.
McInnes had earlier confirmed he hoped to add to his squad as early as next week.
“You will find out who that player is when the deal is done,” he said.
McInnes has already allowed attacker Wes Burns to return to Bristol City.
Inverness Caley Thistle are also understood to be keen on taking striker Miles Storey back north for the remainder of the campaign.
McInnes wants May, a Scottish Cup winner with the Perth Saints in 2014, to fill the gap.
The striker came through the ranks at St Johnstone when McInnes was their manager.
McInnes was also reported to have tried to secure a season-long loan deal for May in the summer of 2015, when he was playing for Sheffield Wednesday, who signed them from Saints after their Scottish Cup win.
Sheffield made it clear they wanted a fee for May and he moved to Preston in August 2015 for an undisclosed figure.
