Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has confirmed midfielder Khalid Aucho will not be joining the club.
The Ugandan trialist featured in a friendly against Arbroath in July but has not done enough to earn a deal.
The Dons need a new midfielder after the departure of Willo Flood, who returned to Dundee United.
And despite impressing McInnes, the manager said Aucho is not the kind of player they need.
The player will now return to Africa in pursuit of a deal, while Aberdeen prepare for their Europa League tie.
Fans have been calling for a new midfielder all summer but the club are not going to rush into any deal.
If nothing else, Aucho’s tale has been a bizarre one.
After he was linked with Rangers early in the summer, he started touting himself to Aberdeen on social media.
Reports are now coming out of Africa that the midfielder could sign for South African Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits.
