Aberdeen’s Premiership game with Motherwell at Pittodrie was abandoned tonight due to floodlight failure.
The lights went out after just five minutes and referee Alan Muir gathered the players at the sidelines.
However with driving rain, when further lights failed just two minute later the whistler took the players into the dressing room.
After a 19 minute delay the players returned back onto the pitch for a quick warm up before the game restarted.
But the action lasted less than two minutes before the floodlights failed again due to the generators tripping.
The failure was met by boos from the Pittodrie crowd.
Players were sent to the dressing room for a further 10 minutes before it was confirmed the game was abandoned.
The match announcer confirmed: “Unfortunately the match has been abandoned.
“We apologise for the inconvenience but please retain your match tickets.”
This was a blow to Aberdeen’s bid to close the gap on second placed Rangers to just one point.
Aberdeen now face having to fit this match, which was already a game in hand, into their schedule.
