Dolly Parton’s Aberdeen gig sells out in minutes

MUSIC legend Dolly Parton’s Aberdeen gig sold out within minutes of going on sale – becoming one of the quickest to do so in North-east history.

The iconic singer, songwriter and actress created a huge buzz of excitement when she announced earlier this week she was coming to the AECC as part of her world tour.

Tickets for the June 15 gig went on sale at 9am on Friday and were snapped up in less than 10 minutes.

That makes Dolly one of the fastest selling acts to play the venue, joining the likes of Oasis and The Killers.

Brian Horsburgh, managing director of the AECC, said: “The Dolly Parton concert sold out very quickly.

“We knew tickets would be highly sought after, but it sold even quicker than we anticipated.

“A performer of this magnitude coming to the GE Oil & Gas Arena is great for the region and this was definitely reflected in the demand for tickets.”

Announcing the tour, Dolly said she was looking forward to playing for her Aberdeen fans.

“I’ve put together things for this show that I think fans will love,” she said.

Dolly is coming to the Granite City as part of a global tour to back her soon-to-be-released studio album of new material, Blue Smoke.

In a career spanning more than 45 years, she has won countless awards in both country and pop circles.

Her hits include Jolene, I Will Always Love you and 9 to 5.

Her tour will see Dolly play across Europe in June and July, including the UK, Denmark, Germany and Norway.

Her last European tour in 2011 saw her notch up record-breaking attendances.

Dolly said: “Every time I come to Europe I’m just as excited as I was my very first time, which was many years ago.

“I love that part of the world and I especially love the fans.”
