AN ABERDEEN thief involved in the theft of metal plates worth more than £600,000 from an oil firm has been jailed for three years.

Peter Stewart, 27, whose address was given in court papers as Flat D, 9 Alexander Terrace, Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to stealing metal heat exchange plates from Alfa Laval Ltd, in Kirkton Drive, Dyce on August 31 and November 20, 2012.

Forensic evidence linked Stewart to the thefts.

Defence agent Alex Burn described Stewart’s involvement as “absolutely insane” and claimed he had no idea of the value of the stolen items.

Sheriff Graham Buchanan told Stewart that given the “high value” involved and the “organised way” in which the offence was carried out he would jail him for three years.
