Terminology


ABC1 Demographic: A social class grouping that in simple terms equates to middle class people.
C2DE Demographic: A social class grouping that in simple terms equates to working class people.
% Reach: The percentage of a population that a title reaches.
Unique User: A unique device (e.g. a computer or mobile phone) that has made requests for content to the site in the period being measured.
Page View: The total number of times that a browser (a device) has engaged in a single burst of activity with less than 30 minutes between Page Impression. A new Visit starts when the gap between requests for content is at least 30 minutes. A series of one or more Page Impressions, served to one browser, which ends when there is a gap of 30 minutes or more between successive Page Impressions for that browser.
Page Impression: A request for a page of a site’s content made by a User of that site in the period being measured. The golden rule is “one click = one page”. A file, or combination of files, sent to a valid browser as a result of that browser’s request being received by the server. In effect, one request by a valid browser should result in one Page Impression being claimed.
Evening Express survey area: postal sectors where the Evening Express circulation penetrates more than 10% of households (demonstrated visually on map 1) - as specified by regulatory body JICREG. 58 postal sectors, 312,000 adults. Results based on all adults aged 15+ living within the Evening Express 10% area.
Aberdeen Citizen survey area: postal sectors where the Aberdeen Citizen circulation penetrates more than 10% of households (demonstrated visually on map 2) - as specified by regulatory body JICREG. 27 postal sectors, 158,000 adults. Results based on all adults aged 15+ living within the Aberdeen Citizen 10% area.
