Plans to sell granite terraced house near Grammar school

PATRICIA Doherty is bidding farewell to her much-treasured family home, to accommodate the needs of her ever-growing family!
Patricia, 40, and husband Gary, 38, have loved their time living in their traditional granite house on Belgrave Terrace.
But with their four children getting bigger by the day, they are now on the lookout for a home where everyone can have their own bedroom.
“People always say they are sad to leave their homes, but we truly are,” said Patricia, who is taking a career break from her job as a psychiatrist.
“We’ve had some lovely times here as a family, and we will really miss the house.
“But the children are still sharing rooms and it’s time they enjoyed the identity of having their own space.”
There’s certainly never a dull moment in the Doherty household.
Patricia and Gary, financial director of Hydrasun, are parents to Luke, 11, Amy, 9, Sean, 6 and Sam, 3.
But luckily the design of the house has been ideal for a family of their size.
Patricia said: “The living space downstairs is great because it can all be treated as open plan.
“The kitchen leads to the dining room where the children do their homework.
“So I can be in the kitchen doing something else, but still feel as though I am close to them – without us all being cramped together.
“The space is good for entertaining too, as people can mingle in the lounge, kitchen and dining room.
But what really attracted Patricia and Gary was the garden.
“It’s a big garden with a decking area and it’s fully-enclosed.
“It feels nice and private and although we live close to the centre of town, it really is a quiet road to live on.
“It’s nice when the children have their friends over to play in the garden and I can just sit in the kitchen with a coffee and watch them.”
Originally two flats, this is now a lovely and spacious four-bedroom house that combines the best of its traditional features with modern living.
It has big bay windows in a sash and case style.
Since moving in nearly four years ago, Patricia and Gary have had them renovated – but with special effort made to maintain the original, stained glass.
They renovated the family bathroom too.
And all the fireplaces throughout the house are in working order, adding to the property’s quirky charm.
As well as the garden, which is full of toys, the children love to play in the summer house. Indoors they enjoy spending time in the big front bedroom which is bright and airy.
Grown-ups will love the modern charm of the kitchen, with its stylish tiling and central island.
Planning permission has also been granted to convert the loft area into further accommodation.
Patricia said: “I’d like to see another young family move in and make the most of the house.
“It’s in a lovely quiet street in the catchment area for Aberdeen Grammar School.
“It’s ideal for people with children.
“We are now getting ready for our last Christmas in our home before it’s time to move on.”
