PITTODRIE boss Jimmy Calderwood would rather lead the Dons to cup glory, than accept a big money move to England.

Former Red Barry Nicholson recently claimed Calderwood would have to move south to realise his ambitions.

But such is Calderwood’s desire to taste success with the Dons, he would never leave until he has lifted silverware with the club.

He said: “ It would take something special to make me leave a club like Aberdeen and go down south.

“Managing in England is maybe something that I would like to try at some point in my career.

“There have been a few opportunities that have come up but they did not suit me.”

Calderwood has been linked with Derby County and Leicester City in recent years.

But there is no way he is moving on until the Dons break their 13-year trophy drought.

“I want to win a trophy first,” he said.

“I know for a fact that I can win trophies with Aberdeen, because we can beat any team in Scotland.

”We got to two semi- finals last season. Now all we have to do is take that next step.”

Former Don Nicholson also claimed Calderwood did not get the backing needed from the board to strengthen the squad, and that was why the midfielder quit for Preston North End.

But Calderwood said: “Aberdeen have always tried to back me with regards to money.

“The board have chosen to sustain funds for the squad for the next three years so the stability is there.

“Not many teams will be able to say that.

“Many team high up in the SPL have taken a gamble but they will not be able to sustain that over the next few years.

“We will because we have a sound base.”

Sone Aluko is out of the trip to Kilmarnock with a hamstring injury.

Jamie Smith and Bertrand Bossu are also out as is striker Tommy Wright who has had a cast removed from an Achilles injury.
