ALL too often a visit to the local chippy – particularly on a busy Saturday night – means greasy, undercooked chips and a warmed-up slab of fish.
But Hass’s Fish and Chips on Holburn Street, proudly tells customers they will have to wait for their food. This is because it has to be freshly cooked from scratch.
And it is well worth the wait.
My girlfriend opted for a large haddock supper (£6.20) – it was a jaw-droppingly huge fish, that was perfect, from the firm, flake-on-the-fork flesh to the tasty, crisp batter.
I opted for one of the specials, haggis wrapped in a chicken breast with bacon – battered of course (£5).
It too was a massive portion and the perfect foil for the chilly weather and a busy Saturday spent rushing round like mad things.
Our chips were big, chunky and delicious.
The total bill came to £11.20. An absolute steal considering the size and quality of the portions.
