DIVISION Three side Hilton shocked Division One East outfit Hazlehead United to progress to the fourth round of the Foster’s Centenary Scottish Cup.

The visitors, who are new to the AAFA, took control of the game from the start and were first to attack when a long pass from Campbell found Fraser, whose shot went past the post.

Hilton were pushing forward but their moves were breaking down in the last third of the pitch.

The Hazlehead defence was struggling with the heavy pitch, and keeper Fraser had to look lively to tip Stuart’s header over the bar.

Hilton keeper Cowie had to run off his line to challenge Hazlehead’s Emslie, whose shot went wide of the post on 17 minutes as the home side looked to take control.

However, it was Hilton who took the lead four minutes later.

A deep cross from the left fell to STUART, at the back post who slotted home from two yards.

Hilton nearly added a second a minute later, but Fraser’s header from a Campbell throw-in came back off the crossbar.

The away side were dominating, and Hazlehead got a bit of luck when a drive from Milnes rebounded off a post to Sherriffs, whose shot was saved by Fraser.

Emslie broke forward for Hazlehead on 35 minutes to strike a great drive, but Cowie was at full stretch to keep his side ahead at the interval.

(Half-time: 0-1)

Hazlehead started the second half strongly, peppering the Hilton goal with shots, but Cowie was in fine form and coped well.

Hilton were awarded a free-kick inside the Hazlehead box nine minutes into the second half after Fraser picked up the ball from a throw in.

After discussion with players of both teams referee Morrison changed his decision giving the kick to Hazlehead.

Hazlehead had a great chance to pull level on 58 minutes after some good play from Smith. He broke free with a great run from the half way line beating two men before passing to Macklin, who wasted the opportunity by not hitting the target.

Although the home side were having a good spell, they were leaving themselves open at the back, and Hilton took advantage to double their lead on 71 minutes when SINCLAIR fired home a free-kick from the edge of the box.

Hazlehead were trying to get back into the game but poor finishing frustrated them and they started to give away needless fouls, with Vass sent off for a heavy tackle from behind on Sherriffs.

ROSE made sure of the win for Hilton with five minutes remaining when he volleyed home a Johnston cross.
