Lawrie on march as weather closes in
Published:
PAUL LAWRIE battled through wet and windy conditions to move up the leaderboard during the second round of the Volvo Masters at Valderamma in Spain today.
The 1999 Open champion, who started the day in 43rd place after an opening five-over 76, was putting together one of the day’s better scores before play had to be suspended.
Lawrie took a share of 32nd place after playing his first 10 holes in just one over par.
Only Padraig Harrington played any better.
The Irishman was level par through 13 holes but he was still on five over after he had only matched Lawrie’s score on the first day.
Harrington has to finish first or second to have a chance of denying Ryder Cup partner Robert Karlsson the European Tour Order of Merit.
In mid-afternoon, it was decided to call off play for the day with only three of the 57 players finishing their second rounds.
