SNOW Patrol are coming to Aberdeen as part of their biggest UK tour, it was announced today.
They will play to 8,500 fans at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on February 26.
Tickets for the Snow Patrol gig are expected to be snapped up when they go on sale on Friday, November 7.
The band, formed in Dundee but now based in Belfast, are coming to Aberdeen as part of their Taking Back The Cities arena tour.
Playing 13 dates it is Snow Patrol’s biggest UK tour to date and comes on the back of their latest album, A Hundred Million Suns, which was released a week ago. Taking Back The Cities is the first single from the CD.
The band started their career as indie darlings on the Scottish circuit, forming in Dundee in 1994.
The five-piece broke through to the mainstream in 2003 with their album Final Straw, which reached number three in the album charts and spawned the iconic hit single Run. But it was their next album, Eyes Open, which propelled the band to superstardom, both in the UK and America.
It sold more than 1.6 million copies in Britain – becoming the country’s best-selling album in 2006 – and more than four million worldwide.
It also produced their number one single, Chasing Cars, which stayed in the charts for 85 weeks.
“We were a 10-year overnight success,” said frontman and main songwriter, Gary Lightbody. “It was a bit of a shock to the system.”
Their new album, One Hundred Million Suns, hopes to repeat that success.
Meanwhile, fans of two major stars will be able to get up-close and personal in the New Year.
Chart-topper Sandi Thom, pictured, and Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell are both planning intimate gigs in Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree.
Macduff-born singing sensation Sandi and her band will play the venue on Sunday, February 1, as part of her Homecoming Scotland tour.
Saturday, March 7, is the diary date for punk-rocker Cornwell.
The Homecoming tour follows the success of Sandi’s million-selling No 1 debut album, Smile It Confuses People.
