Hutcheon misfires on the greens

Published:

GREIG Hutcheon admitted he already has his eye on the European Tour’s qualifying school next month after another over-par round in the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.

While Glasgow’s Andrew McArthur finished in third spot, 35-year-old Hutcheon had a one-over 72 for a one-under aggregate of 212 to sit 12 shots behind joint-leaders Richard Bland and the charging John E Morgan, who fired a course-record 61 to romp to the front.

Hutcheon arrived at the Challenge Tour’s season-ending event looking for a big finish to jump into a top 20 spot on the order of merit that would have been rewarded with a card for the main circuit next season. With those ambitions now all but gone, he is looking to sign off with a flourish today before preparing for an assault on the q-school final next month.

Hutcheon’s fellow Aberdonian Richie Ramsay was also left cursing his luck on the greens as he posted a two-under 69 for a three-under 210.

The 25-year-old reeled off three birdies on the first five holes with putts of 15 feet at two and four and a 25-footer at five.

But the heat went out the flat blade after that.

Ramsay said: “ I had so many chances.”
