STONEHAVEN secured their first win in three games with a solid second-half show at Lads Club in Division 1 North.

The home side had the better of the first half, forcing Stonehaven defenders back on their heels, but they could not turn the pressure into goals.

Lads Club attacked from the kick-off and Allison beat three men only to see his shot blocked on the line.

Allison had another chance in the fifth minute, but this time his shot went past the post.

Another move through the middle involving Allison and McCrum was again wasted when the latter’s shot went wide.

Stonehaven could not settle, and were giving away possession too easily, putting themselves under pressure.

It was 32 minutes before home keeper Deans was called into action when he pushed Reid’s 12-yard shot round a post.

Stonehaven were coming more into the game, finding their men with short, sharp passing and shooting at every opportunity but couldn’t find a way through.

(Half-time: 0-0)

Stoney keeper Anderson was called into action straight from the restart when McCrum’s long- distance shot was deflected and the stopper was forced to make a fingertip save.

The second half belonged to Stonehaven, and they took the lead in the 54th minute when REID was sent through by Stewart and beat keeper Deans to open the scoring.

REID hit the target again on 61 minutes when he latched on to a long clearance from his keeper.

The Lads Club were posted missing, and the Stoney hitman slotted past the advancing Deans.

A minute later a mistake from Lads Club’s Bruce gave Stonehaven’s Ross a chance, but his shot went wide.

The visitors had another chance not long after, but Mitchell hit a post with a right-foot drive from 12 yards.

Lads Club’s task was made all the harder 15 minutes from time when keeper Deans was sent off when he pulled down Reid outside the box.

Murray took over the keeper’s jersey for the rest of the game, but he could do nothing when Stoney completed the scoring late on.

STEWART got himself on the scoresheet when he ran at the defence and slipped the ball past the substitute keeper to seal the three points for the Mearns men.
