Fun is key for Sara on Indian adventure

STONEHAVEN swim star Sara Hamilton hopes her trip to the Commonwealth Youth Games next week will be followed by second Indian adventure.
The Mackie Academy pupil is aiming to make the most of competing in Pune by winning a spot on Scotland’s team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Sara, 14, is determined to enjoy herself by taking on board some valuable advice.
“Everybody has wished me good luck, but they said that most of all I should have fun, said Sara.
“Going to India will be really good as it will let me meet other people and help me look to the future.
“That includes the Commonwealth Games in 2010, where it’s an ambition of mine to make the Scottish team.”
Sara, who swims for Stonehaven Amateur Swimming Club and South Aberdeenshire, will take part in three events in Pune.
She will race in the 50 metre and 100m freestyle, as well as the 50m butterfly.
As the holder of numerous national titles and records, Sara is following in the footsteps of North-east Olympic swimmers David Carry, Robbie Renwick and Hannah Miley.
She believes the success of that trio will not only be an inspiration to herself, but also other youngsters.
Sara said: “They are a really good influence and will get a lot of Aberdeenshire children into swimming.
“Young swimmers will see how well people from Aberdeen have done in their sport and think that they could one day be that person as well.”
