SFA eye more top teams at Hampden

SFA CHIEF executive Gordon Smith hopes to secure further friendlies against some of the world’s top footballing nations.
Argentina will visit Hampden on Wednesday, November 19, and Smith is confident he will land more top-level opposition for George Burley’s side.
And Smith hopes the visit of the South American superstars, including Lionel Messi, will be the first of many glamour friendlies at Hampden – and he would be keen on a clash with England.
He said: “Argentina would be the forerunner of bringing the best level of opposition to this country.
“I’m trying to get the best level of opposition and try to tie them up at a longer rate than this.
“The Argentina game is at very short notice, but I’d like to tie games up for the future; that’s what we’re trying to do.
“We’re talking with nations. A lot of the time you’re dealing with agents, who have the international team’s rights which they’ve already paid for.
“We’re looking ahead to try to get games in place. We’ve done the Four Nations tournament in 2011, it looks as though everything is in place for that, although a few details need to be ironed out.
“We’d like to get games in advance of that against the top nations and England are high up on that list.”
