MINTLAW’S Kim Little believes Scotland can create history by qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2009 finals.

The Scots booked their place in the play-offs with a superb 6-0 slaying of Slovakia on Sunday.

Scotland will discover on Monday who their opponents are for the two-legged tie at the end of October.

Little, 18, is anticipating a tough draw as Scotland will be paired against one of the group runners-up.

But the Arsenal ace sees no reason why the Scots cannot advance to the finals in Finland.

She said: “It is going to be hard, we could get a tough draw against a team like Italy.

“But there are two games at the end of the month and anything can happen in international football.

“We will work our hardest and try to get two wins to qualify for the finals.

“A Scottish women’s team has never reached the finals before.

“To get there and play teams like Germany and England would be a great achievement.”

Not only have Scotland never been in the finals of a major tournament, they have not even qualified for the play-offs before.

Given the significance of the success against Slovakia, Little believes it was the best she has experienced in a dark blue jersey.

Little scored with a low drive and was involved in creating another two goals, during a superb team performance.

She said: “It’s the best result I’ve had with Scotland.

“To win 6-0 and get to the play-offs is great.”

Scotland will go into the crunch contests at the end of next month in fine form.

Head coach Anna Signeul’s side warmed up for the win against Slovakia with a 4-0 thumping of Switzerland at McDiarmid Park.

Little reckons Scotland are continuing to improve and the recent victories will serve them well when they face what will undoubtedly be a stern test in the play-offs.

She said: “We are getting better every time we play.

“Winning games, in which we are not conceding goals and scoring a lot, gives us confidence going into matches against better sides.

“There has been a lot of hard work put in by the players and coaches, and it has paid off.”
