Mendes’ goals will be special
But he has no targets

PEDRO Mendes has refused to set himself any goal scoring targets this season – but admits those he does score are likely to be a bit special.
The Portuguese playmaker added to his tally with a swerving effort in extra-time against Partick Thistle to spare Rangers’ blushes and send them into the quarter-finals of the CIS Cup.
He had previously opened his account with a 30-yard screamer against Celtic, ensuring a memorable Old Firm debut.
“I never score tap-ins,” said Mendes. “Well, not in recent years. A long time ago, at Vitoria Guimaraes, I might have scored with a tap-in.
“I’m playing quite far forward now for a midfielder so maybe more chances are going to come along for me. I’ve taken a couple so far.
“I do not set myself any targets. If I can score then great, but if we win that is even better.”
The focus now returns to the Premier League with a visit to Hibs on Sunday.
And, despite a lack of European football this season, Mendes has still set his sights high for his maiden campaign at Ibrox.
“We are out of Europe now, so the only thing on our minds are the domestic trophies in Scotland,” he said. “We will try very hard to win all three.”
