McAllister vows to back city fighters

LEE McAllister has vowed to unearth the North-east’s best boxing talent and help take them to the top.
The 25-year-old has recently secured his promoter’s licence from the British Board of Boxing Control.
And the Aberdeen Assassin, who vacated his WBU lightweight and light-welterweight world titles, wants to promote and manage the Granite City’s rising fighters.
He said: “There is a lot of emerging talent in Aberdeen and I aim to help them through my role as a promoter.
“I am the youngest promoter in Britain but I also have a lot of experience of professional boxing.
“With more than six years in the pro ranks I can help some upcoming fighters.”
McAllister’s first promotion will be his fight at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom on Saturday, October 25.
The fight, against an as yet un-named European opponent, is a warm up for his British lightweight title showdown with champion John Murray on November 29 in Manchester.
“People will be going to watch me , but I will provide a strong under-card to give value for money,” he said.
“At the moment I am just dipping my foot into promoting to see how it works out.
“There is absolutely no way it will detract from my preparation for fights.
“I will be 100% focused for these bouts.”
McAllister recently signed with Glasgow-based promoter Tommy Gilmour.
And he was given the go-ahead by Gilmour to gain his own licence.
“Gilmour is happy for me to get my licence,” he said.
“However, all my big title fights, and bouts on Sky TV, will be joint Gilmour/Barry Hearns promotions.’’
