Surprise arrival of three lambs

THREE new faces have made an extremely late arrival at an Aberdeen farm.
Staff at Doonies were celebrating the birth of the trio of new lambs.
Normally lambing season is in March or April.
But three separate Whiteface Woodland ewes have just given birth to lambs.
Doonies Farm manager Graham Lennox said: “We bought a ram last year and in April there were no lambs appearing, so we thought that maybe he wasn’t fit for purpose.
“But we left him in with the sheep and then these lambs appeared.
“It is very late for lambs to be born, but it’s always nice for the children to see newborn lambs about the place.
“We have checked and it does not look like any more are on the way.”
Six Tamworth piglets have also been born this month.
The farm was threatened with closure earlier this year because of Aberdeen City Council cuts.
But in August the city council agreed a temporary six-month licence for the Friends of Doonies to run the farm.
A Doonies awareness campaign is to be held in The Mall Aberdeen on Saturday, October 4.
Friends of Doonies director Jeanette Grant said: “There are still people who think the farm is closed because of what happened in the year.”
