Racist remarks not proven

Published:

INVERURIE Loco Works midfielder Craig Ross will not face any action over the allegation he made racist remarks in a match against Huntly on August 13.

The Scottish Football Association considered the matter at yesterday’s disciplinary committee meeting.

But they decided there was not enough evidence to make a conclusive decision on the case.

An SFA disciplinary spokesperson said: “The committee felt there was insufficient evidence and the charge of unacceptable conduct was not proved.

“There will be no action on that matter, which is now closed.”

Ross was sent off at half-time in Inverurie’s 2-0 Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup defeat to Huntly.

Referee Craig Sim showed Ross a red card for using offensive, insulting or abusive language.

The official also reported Ross for unacceptable conduct due to comments by the Inverurie player allegedly being racist in nature.

That resulted in the case coming before the SFA disciplinary committee.

Inverurie Locos chairman Steve Innes is satisfied with their verdict.

He said: “I feel that justice has been done.

“The club would never have condoned any such action and knew there was absolutely no truth in the allegations made against Craig.

“We knew that we had to go through the formality of a hearing and are delighted for Craig and his family that the case has been thrown out.”
