THE Dons and Cove Rangers will consider ground sharing at any new community stadium.

The group tasked with finding the most appropriate site in the city today confirmed that Cove chairman Keith Moorhouse has been invited to join them.

The Arena Project Board – which is a partnership between Aberdeen FC and Aberdeen City Council – has identified two potential sites, at King’s Links and Loirston Loch.

Moorhouse has been asked for his input, and that could lead to the Highland League champions eventually moving house with the Dons.

The Arena Project Board stress that this does not mean there will be a preference for the Loirston site and that the two football teams could work together in either location.

Dons managing director Duncan Fraser said: “This project will offer opportunities for working together and we think it is important to speak about the partnership possibilities now.”

Cove have planning permission to move to a new stadium at Calder Park.

But Moorhouse believes it makes sense for them to consider using the community stadium instead.

Moorhouse said: “The prospect of a new, high specification community stadium is an exciting one for Aberdeen,.

“Our stadium at Allan Park is suitable for our current needs, however, we fully realise that to achieve our ambition of playing in the Scottish Football League that new facilities are vital.

“We recognise that from a business perspective we must keep all our options open and we are keen to explore the opportunities that being a part of a much larger project offers.”

Two feasibility studies are being carried out by specialist consultants Faber Maunsell.

i wonder if in decades to come aberdeen & cove will develop a ac/inter or lazio/roma type rivalry in sharing a stadium, sunds far fetched, but look at demise of dundee and rise of united since the fifties/sixties - all it needs is cove to climb the leagues, invest heavily in community, schools, youth club etc (& drop the rangirs bit) affordable tickets etc etc

Never heard so much tosh in my life. A top football club sharing a stadium with non league kickers(their board and supporters are all Glasgow Rangers followers by the way)The pitch will get dug up being used every week as they play in tackity boots.Aberdeen hasnt got the support for 2 teams in the league anyway...

Colin Walker's comments are the usual small-minded garbage trotted out by Dons fans who have to vent their spleen at anything Rangers related no matter what level it's at. Cove are certainly not a bunch of non-league "kickers", they certainly don't play in tackity boots, and as for saying all the board and supporters are Glasgow Rangers fans, he couldn't be more wrong if he tried. The City of Dundee support two teams quite happily, so saying Aberdeen wouldn't have the support for two teams is a load of tosh. Oh well, maybe it's just jealousy on his part, seeing as Cove win silverware on a far more regular basis than his beloved Dons.....

Right enough martin because i can totally see cove beating copenhagen 4-0 and the only time any cove "fans" get in to europe is when they go on their holidays.

Since when has Dundee supported 2 teams quite happily...One gets 6,000 and the other 2,500. And all of Coves board are baton waving orange buns thats a fact....
