Why it is the end for Khan

Published:

LIGHTWEIGHT star Amir Khan has no way back after his shock knock-out, according to Aberdeen's Lee McAllister.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist suffered a shock 54-second defeat to Colombian unknown Breidis Prescott. And McAllister was left seething, because the Aberdeen Assassin wanted to be the one to expose Khan's weaknesses.

McAllister, who recently gave up his WBU light-welterweight and lightweight belts, said: "When Khan hit the canvas I saw my pension plan go up in smoke. "That should have been me knocking him out, because I have been saying for years that he is a glorified amateur with a glass chin.

"I have called Khan out countless times to face me in the ring, and I was rejected every time because I was too dangerous an opponent.

"Khan's people were spoon-feeding him nobodies and they thought Prescott was another one.

"But you do not get 17 knock-outs out of 19 fights unless you are a hitter.

"There is no way back for Khan now, he is finished.

Prescott twice had the Bolton fighter on the canvas before the fight was stopped, for one of the biggest ever shocks in British pro-boxing as Khan lost his WBO Inter-continental title.

McAllister reckons Khan's pampered lifestyle was his downfall.

"Khan is a millionaire at 20, drives flash sports cars and has everything laid on a plate to him," he said.

"I am five years older than him, have fought more fights, yet still have to fight to put food on the table.

"Khan has no hunger, no drive, and that was exploited.

"The only way Khan would get in the ring with me now is if the British Board of Boxing control sanctioned him to wear a crash helmet. I would knock him out."

McAllister believes Khan's shock defeat now opens the way for the Aberdeen Assassin to be acknowledged as Britain's top lightweight.

"No one can touch me at this weight," he said.

"Khan is finished, as is Jonathan Thaxton and I would easily beat Graeme Earl.

"I would beat Willie Limond and Lee Meager is past it. "

John Murray is the only top fighter left at lightweight."

Edinburgh's Alex Arthur lost his WBO super-featherweight title to Nicky Cook on a points decision on the same bill. And McAllister would face him in an all Scottish bout.

"He is talking about stepping up to lightweight, and if he does I would fight him”, said McAllister.
