FOUR Aberdeen Bushido Karate Club members have been selected to train with the Great Britain squad with a view to being picked for next year’s World Championships in Greece.
Wesley Douglas and Calum Clark, who recently passed their third dan grading, were invited to the sessions at Nottingham, as were Howard Chan and Debbie Witterick.
Last month eight members of the club competed in the SKI-GB national championships in Nottingham.
Howard won silver in the senior individual kata, while the Aberdeen B team took bronze in the men’s kumite.
The club has also been approached by Active Schools Aberdeen to teach karate classes to school children in the city.
TWO Aberdeen karate instructors won gold for Scotland at the IJKA European championships in Udine, Italy.
Keith Crighton and Billy Thomson, who are both sixth dans with the Aberdeen Shotokan Karate Club, retained the overall team performance title by defeating England in the final.
They were joined in the three-man side by Richard Bruce.
Keith also took home a bronze medal in the male senior fighting category.
Billy won silver in that section, as well as a bronze in the team kata.
Billy said: “Both of us trained hard over six or seven months and are delighted with the result.”
