MS sting Turriff comeback to go through

Smith at the double for United

MS United 4 Turriff Thistle 1

Published:

BOTH sides were looking to put their indifferent league form behind them in this Stephen Shield first round clash at New Advocates Park.

MS were first to attack and a shot from Connor flew past the upright.

Turriff forced a corner in the eighth minute, but Fisher headed over before Anderson hit the post four minutes later.

MS took the lead on 40 minutes with a move by Paul Mitchell and McIntyre giving CONNOR the chance to slip the ball under keeper Bennett.

The home side doubled their lead three minutes later when SMITH was tripped in the penalty box and he converted the spot-kick.

(Half-time: 2-0)

Turriff were the hungrier side at the start of the second half, and forced MS keeper Braidwood to make two saves in as many minutes.

The away side pulled a goal back three minutes into the second period with a fine goal by CUMMING.

On 53 minutes, Turriff’s Fisher got his head to a cross but Braidwood got a hand to the header, pushed the ball to the underside of the bar and Jamieson cleared.

Turriff got their reward on 73 minutes when HAY beat Braidwood with a 25-yard drive to level.

MS took the lead against the run of play on 79 minutes, when SMITH sprung the offside trap to net.

The home side sealed the win with a minute left when WEBSTER’S free-kick found the back of the net.
