Fears of demonstration at Ibrox
Fury over Cuellar sale
Rangers v Hearts
Published:
THE Rangers Supporters Trust have warned Sir David Murray they expect a demonstration over the sale of Carlos Cuellar at tomorrow’s game against Hearts.
Ibrox chairman Murray accused those who suggest there is a conspiracy behind the sale of the defender of trying to cause “mayhem.”
He insisted he and his administrators did nothing wrong in agreeing to include a £7.8 million release clause in the player’s contract when he joined from Osasuna.
That clause was triggered by Aston Villa with Cuellar opting to leave rather than accept improved terms to stay.
Some fans have demanded resignations over the issue and there are rumours of protests tomorrow.
Trust spokesman David Edgar said: “Sadly, I still believe there will be protests tomorrow. The RST are not in favour of it and will not encourage it, but I can see something unorganised happening.”
Murray denied there was anything untoward about Cuellar’s exit.
He said: “I know there have been a lot of questions asked: ‘Was he forced out the door?’ etc.
“But the fact is we sent out on the website an honest statement by the chief executive Martin Bain explaining the situation.
“But people want to read into it and put their own twist on it; there’s not a lot we can do.”
Murray added: “People are putting that on websites, knowing there’s no truth in it at all, but just endeavouring to cause mayhem.”
Meanwhile, Rangers were today ready to complete the signing of Pedro Mendes from Portsmouth for £3m.
The 29-year-old Portuguese playmaker is set to travel to Glasgow to and pen a three-year deal with the Ibrox club.

I am finding it increasingly hard to hold back the tears at the demise of the "mighty" glesga rankgers. When are these people going to realise that they are not world beaters and they have become one of the most boring teams in the country under the Walter "turn my back on my country" Smith.
