TOP Scots singer Amy Macdonald has got engaged to former Dons striker Steve Lovell.

Amy revealed her engagement at T in the Park when she took to the stage wearing a sparkling diamond ring.

But despite penning a song called Footballer’s Wife - the 20-year-old songstress insists she is definitely not a WAG.

Amy, from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, said: “Just because I might be going out with someone who plays football doesn’t mean I’ve turned into a celebrity-crazed fame-hungry woman.

“I’m definitely not a WAG.

“It’s a song about obsession with celebrity and people being famous for no reason and being talentless and getting there simply for who they are with.

“It’s totally not the case with me and has nothing to do with Steve’s occupation.

“I like to think I got where I am because of the amount of hard work I’ve put in.

“I don’t feel bad for writing that song because I believe everything in it.”

Amy and Steve, 27, got back last week from a romantic break to the Caribbean island of Grenada, where Steve popped the question.

Amy said: “I’m over the moon.

“It’s a dream come true.

“But we won’t be getting married any time soon.

“Both our families are really happy for us too.”

The pair have been together since January.

Amy said: “Steve had been to one of my gigs and sent me a lovely fan letter.

“His name stuck in my head.

“I knew it but couldn’t place it, so I Googled him.

“Then I saw he was the guy who always scored against my team, Rangers.”

Steve kept sending her flowers and they finally met after he invited her to watch Aberdeen play Motherwell last December.

Amy’s debut single This Is The Life topped the charts when it was released last year.
