ROCK veterans Oasis were today being honoured with an award celebrating their contribution to the music industry.

Led by Manchester brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, the band were at the forefront of the British rock revival of the 1990s.

Oasis burst on to the scene with their debut album Definitely Maybe, which included anthems such as Supersonic and fans’ favourite Cigarettes and Alcohol.

Their 1997 album Be Here Now is the fastest selling album in UK chart history, and sold more than one million copies in just a fortnight.

They were being honoured at today’s prestigious Silver Clef Award ceremony in London.

The guest list also includes The Fratellis, Amy Macdonald, Simon Pegg, Lily Allen, Paul Weller, Russell Brand and Meatloaf.
