FIVE English clubs are chasing former Dons keeper Derek Soutar.

The 27-year-old was on the verge of joining Morecambe Town before the deal fell through.

But now a Championship club, two League One teams and two League Two outfits have expressed an interest in the ex-Dundee stopper.

Soutar is pleased that things are finally progressing as he looks to rebuild his career south of the border.

“Ideally, I want my future sorted out as soon as possible,” said Soutar.

“But I’m a little bit happier things are progressing forward now as it has been a bit of an anxious wait.

“One of the clubs is very keen but want to see me in a trial match first which is understandable.”

The Scotland under-21 cap was also interesting both Ross County and Dundee before both clubs backed out of deals.

But Soutar, based near the City of Discovery, could yet train with either the Dens Park club or Dundee United as he looks to build up his fitness ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Soutar added: “I’m hoping to have something concrete in place at the start of next week.

“But failing that I’ll play in that trial match a week on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Jimmy Calderwood is continuing his red revolution at Pittodrie.

He has already signed Bertrand Bossu, Gary McDonald, Sammy Stewart and recently captured Mark Kerr from Dundee United.

But Calderwood wants more new recruits and expects to land at least another four new signings.

He added: “There will certainly be some more new players coming in.

“Sir Alex Ferguson was saying it has been very difficult getting anyone in so if he has got a problem then we all have.

“But I would expect at least another three or possibly four new players.”

However, one player who the Dons are unlikely to land is Sone Aluko.

The winger was a real Pittodrie hit during his loan spell last term and Calderwood had wanted him to return north again.

But Brum boss Alex McLeish wants to first run the rule over Aluko in pre-season training before making any decisions.

I dont wish to be disrespectful to Dereck who did his best for us but do we really care that he was on the verge of going to Morecambe Town? He is now an ex-player. The same goes for endless stories about Barry Nicolson. Do any of us care where ex players end up? More interest in the future please,,,

PS. . Paul Dickov was released by Man City this morning. At 35 he can still do a job and may accept an reasonable offer if he is not too greedy.. probably a pay cut of £20k per week but decent players coming to the end of their career might see Aberdeen as a bit of fun pre retirement before they buy their zimmers?

Awesome news re DS. Its disappointing the Morecambe deal fell through but we eagerly await the exciting developments to come. Meanwhile, I think the EE are understating the significance of the red revolution that is occurring. A goalie who will act as an understudy to Clangers will make every other club stand up and take notice. But cant argue with Kerr - good signing
