SHE thought the plane’s captain was just announcing a weather report for their holiday resort.
But when it turned out to be a proposal from her boyfriend, Nicola Campbell was left walking on air at 37,000 feet.
Aberdeen lass Nicola was relaxing on a flight to Majorca, ready for a well-earned break.
The journey was almost over and the Air Europa plane was just ready to begin its descent into the holiday island.
Nicola sat back as the captain’s voice came over the speakers.
And she was stunned when he mentioned her name.
“The captain came on and he asked if there was a Nicola Campbell on the plane,” said the newly engaged Aberdeen mum.
“I turned round and there was Mark on one knee proposing to me.
“I was so embarrassed but so excited at the same time.
“Everyone was cheering and clapping.”
The pair met just a year ago after spying each other around town and chatting on an online site.
For their first date, Mark Neish’s romantic side came out straight away.
Nicola, 25, said: “The day of our first date, he sent a bunch of flowers to my work.
“He is a real
romantic and that set the tone of how things were going to be.”
A whirlwind romance followed with the couple moving in together after a matter of months.
And Mark gets on brilliantly with Nicola’s 7-year-old daughter and St Joseph’s Primary pupil Melissa.
Nicola, from Kincorth, said she guessed Mark was going to propose.
And she was positive he would not manage to catch her out.
“I was sure I would be able to guess when he would do it and had all the obvious dates in mind,” said Nicola, an HR worker.
“But I had no idea he had been planning this for weeks.
“He had to get in contact with the holiday company and flight operator.
“Everyone in the family knew too.
“For the rest of our holiday, we kept getting spotted round the resort and congratulated.”
Mark, 22, a documents controller, and Nicola plan to marry in 2010.
