INVERURIE’S Hannah Miley shocked double Olympic gold medalist Laure Manaudou to claim Scottish National Open glory.
The 18-year-old smashed a four year old Scottish record to beat French legend Manaudou into second place in the 200m backstroke at Tollcross, Glasgow.
Her time of 2:12.66 took over two seconds off the previous Scottish Record of 2:14.80 held by Lorna Smith which dated back to 2004.
She said: “I am really happy with that swim and it is great preparation for my 200m and 400m individual medley events leading up to the Olympics.
“It was also fantastic to swim against Laure Manaudou, she is an amazing athlete and I’m going to enjoy the moment.
“It is not very often you beat an athlete like Laure.”
Manaudou won silver in 2:13.11, while Georgia Davies of Wales took bronze in 2:14.57.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen’s Robbie Renwick defeated 100m freestyle world record holder Alain Bernard to claim 200m freestyle gold.
Renwick’s time of 1:47.70 was a personal best and just outside fellow Aberdonian David Carry’s British record of 1:47.58.
Renwick said: “This win will give me a lot of confidence going into the Olympics in Beijing.”
