THOUSANDS of youngsters across the North-east have got their fingers crossed.

They could be winners in our fantastic CommunitEE Chest competition – and today is the last chance to collect tokens for your community group.

All the tokens will then have to be sent in so a handful of lucky groups can be chosen as the winners.

Since launching in April, we have heard from all sorts of groups across the North-east who are in the running to pick up a share of the whopping £11,000 cash chest.

The stash of money from our special CommunitEE Chest could be spent on revamping meeting halls, buying new strips for sports teams or splashing out on new kits for dance troupes.

One outfit on the lookout for the money is Illusion School of Dance, based in Inchgarth.

The girls in the group have been busy collecting tokens in the hope it will lead to matching tracksuits.

Claire Smith, who runs the dance school, said: “We travel all over Britain for competitions so it can be very expensive for parents. We would like matching track-suits for all the girls and this money would help out the parents.

“This is an expensive hobby so the money would be fantastic.”

Also springing into action in our competition are the Mastrick Springers.

The kids just love bouncing about on their trampoline.

Coach Denise Elliott said: “They want the money to buy mats and end indexes which are needed for extra safety for jumps and acrobatics.”

The CommunitEE Chest loot will be divided depending on group size so each winning group can enjoy a fair amount.

In the first category are groups with up to 30 members. For these groups, there are 10 prizes of £500 to be given away.

The second category will give groups with between 31 and 60 members the chance to scoop one of four £1,000 prizes.

And the last category will see one club with 61 members or more get their hands on the jackpot £2,000 prize.

The entries have been flooding in with groups keen to scoop prizes in the competition.

These have included the pom-pom shaking Blue Dynamite Cheerleaders from Altens, the flexible Friends of Rhythmic Gymnastics from Bucksburn, the buzzing Busy Bees Playgroup from Turriff and the ocean-faring Sea Cadets from Footdee.

The groups that collect the most tokens have the most chance of winning the cash.

Winning groups can then spend the dosh on anything they want to improve their community projects – from new outfits and toys to fun days out.
