Sandi in pressure to lose weight

Published:

SINGER Sandi Thom has admitted feeling under pressure to lose weight.

The Aberdeenshire-born popstar has dropped a dress size – from a size 10 to a size 8 – since breaking into the music industry.

The 26-year-old said: “I pick up the papers and magazines these days and all I see are celebrities getting thinner and thinner.

“It makes me feel awful. The thing is that I just think it is so silly to even try to reach that kind of size unless you are Girls Aloud and have diets and rigorous dance routines.

“All these skinny celebs have made me get back to the gym and admittedly I feel the pressure to stay skinny these days.”

But Sandi is not the first celebrity to hit out at the size zero culture.

Mariah Carey and Lily Allen have also hit out at skinny models in the past.

And Sugababes star Heidi Range hit out after visiting a hospital and being asked for an autograph by a 13-year-old anorexia sufferer.

Last year, Gossip singer Beth Ditto blasted the size obsession.

Sandi has sold more than a million albums and singles worldwide since breaking into the music industry in 2005 with I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker.

She released her second album – The Pink & The Lily in May.

And Sandi performed on stage at Aberdeen’s Hogmanay party in 2007 in front of 20,000 people.

The singer left the North-east to attend Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, before got her big break in London.
