Police probe brutal attack

RESIDENTS today told of their horror after a man was found stabbed on a blood-splattered street.
The 27-year-old victim was in a serious condition in hospital after collapsing with a deep chest wound.
Police today revealed they were treating the stabbing, in the Walker Road area of Torry, as attempted murder.
Resident Lisa Wood said: “There was loads of blood right across the road.
“A lane was cordoned off but there was a T-shirt and a fleece lying on the ground and they were absolutely soaked in blood.
“I have two young kids and it is horrible and frightening for this to happen on our doorstep.
“The area is not too bad but it is frightening and I just hope that the guy is okay.”
The man, from the Arbroath area, was believed to have been attacked in Walker Lane and managed to make his way to Walker Road before being found by a member of the public around 7.45pm yesterday.
Detective chief inspector Mark Cooper, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are treating the attack as attempted murder.”
He said about 20 officers including search and forensic teams were working on the incident.
He said the search was focusing on the area around the crime.
He said: “We are trying to get as much information as we can about where our victim was.
“Hopefully we will be able to speak to him in the next couple of days.
“We are trying to build up a picture of his associates and where he was.
“We have identified a couple of witnesses.”
DCI Cooper would not confirm what the witnesses had seen but said: “They may have heard something.”
He reassured residents that Aberdeen is still a safe place.
He said: “These incidents are few and far between.”
The area today remained cordoned off and a forensic examination of the scene was continuing.
Resident Amanda Fyfe, 36, said: “My husband saw the man lying on the road outside the house.
“The emergency services were already there.
“I think it’s scary, it was just across from us and it’s especially scary when people have kids and the fact it happened in broad daylight.”
Wilma McDougall, 34, a saleswoman, said: “It is the second time it has happened on this street but it could happen anywhere.
“But it is unreal especially when people have got kids.”
Councillor Irene Cormack said: “It is very concerning for the people in that area and I hope the fact that the area has been cordoned off that people will come forward with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem.”
Councillor Alan Donnelly said he feared that knife crime may be taking over the streets of Aberdeen.
He said: “I condemn any knife crime and I hope that it doesn’t come onto the streets of Aberdeen and become as prevalent as it is in other parts of the UK.
“I hope it is not a culture that is going to arrive in Torry or the city as a whole like it has in places like Glasgow and London.”
