Filling Station: Union Street Aberdeen
Published:
RUNNING on empty after a frantic “holiday clothes” dash round the shops, the Filling Station sounded just right.
Quickly seated by a cheery, friendly waitress we found the menu offered a lip-smacking choice.
We ordered garlic bread with cheese (£3.55) to share as we waited for our main meal.
Although a little greasy, the tasty plate of pizza bread was quickly scoffed.
I certainly hauled in a bumper catch with my main choice of salmon fishcakes (£9.25).
Ordering fishcakes can be a bit of a lottery and you can end up with tatties with just a hint of fish. But not these two generously sized cakes packed with big juicy chunks of salmon, bursting with flavour, accompanied by salad and a pile of fries. Yummy.
My husband definitely went one better ... or should I say bigger ... with his Manhattan burger meal (£10.55).
He had professed to being “starving” but was hard-pressed to polish off the two large, juicy burgers, piled with bacon, salad and cheese in a huge bun ... plus fries! It was like a meal for two.
And as enjoyable as his burgers were he had to leave one behind.
This lovely Americana diner certainly lived up to its name ... we were filled to bursting.
