Chicago Rock Cafe: Union Street, Aberdeen

SHOE shopping. I hate shoe shopping.
It’s wedged somewhere in between playing darts and eating Marmite in the list of things I’d rather not waste my life doing.
So after a quick dash into town to buy the first pair I could lay my hands on, the idea of a stop at the Chicago Rock Cafe was music to my ears.
From a corridor lined with a variety of musical paraphernalia we found ourselves in the large open-plan bar, and took a seat near to a massive screen showing sports.
That was a good start, so our nachos (£3.95) were a slight disappointment. Despite a large serving of salsa, sour cream and jalapenos, there was hardly any cheese and the dish was stone cold by the time it reached us.
All was forgiven, however, when our mains arrived. I had opted for the rack of BBQ ribs (£8.95) which arrived with a mound of fries, coleslaw and salad. The beautifully tender meat came away from the bone easily, and the sticky BBQ sauce was a real finger-licking treat.
My mate chose the combo fajitas (£10.95) – a sizzling plate of steak, chicken and prawns in a spicy sauce, complete with the obligatory tortillas, salsa, sour cream and cheese. There was the perfect ratio of tortillas to fillings, and both were promptly demolished.
All in all I left a happy man –a stomach full of fine food and no more shoe shopping for another year.
