CHELSEA are looking forward to a new era under big Phil Scolari after the World Cup-winning Portugal boss was confirmed as the club’s new manager.
The Premier League club announced he will take over as Blues boss on July 1.
A statement from the Stamford Bridge club said: “Felipe is one of the world’s top coaches with a record of success at club and country.
“He gets the best out of a talented squad of players and his ambitions and expectations match ours.
“He was the outstanding choice.”
Scolari, who will not comment on his new job until the Euro Championships are over, is convinced his side have what it takes to end his tenure on a high.
He said: “Winning this match means we can allow the players to rest.
“I am very pleased with this victory. It means we are where we want to be after two matches. For Portugal, it’s an historic achievement.
“It has not been happening over the last few years so it is excellent.
“This team has been restructured and is very capable, very qualified – this is a good omen for the future,” he said.
“This team has faced a lot of difficulties over the last few years ... it’s good to see our players playing as a unit.
“They went through a hard time over the last two years – now they are fit and playing really well for the national team.”
The Brazilian, who won the World Cup with his native country in 2002, is determined to end the group stage with a win against Switzerland on Sunday.
He said: “We must be realistic. We are playing very good teams and small details make a difference.
“With six points, we have already reached the knockout stage. We came here with the aim of winning every match we can win. We want to reach the knockout stage in a solid position.”
